Walkers in our Three Peaks Challenge at the end of June faced atrocious weather conditions as they ventured out on to the hills.
Howling winds and driving rain made the 26-mile circuit of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough even more of a challenge than we had imagined and, given the conditions, it was testament to the determination our participants that so many finished!
The Challenge was organised by Trustees Nick Lawson and Zoe Ward, with Zoe taking part and being one of those who completed.
Nick Lawson said: “It truly was a great display of British grit and determination! We know some participants were very disappointed not to be able to finish and we are looking into the possibilities of arranging another day in August to complete the challenge.
“Meanwhile we are keeping the fundraising open until July 31 and would appreciate everyone’s effort in helping us reach our target. I would like to say a big thank you to Martin Gerrard of Barclays Bank who, through their local community initiative, have match funded the sponsorship raised.”
There were 15 finishers in all, with Andy Gibbon narrowly finishing first in 10 hours and 54 minutes, just one minute ahead of Steve Bell, Alan Broadbent, Andrew Messenger and Richard Ogden. The full list of the finishers was:
