Fantastic news that the winners at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event included no fewer than three of our own Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards holders!

Rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield, who won the Achievement in Sport Award in 2007, was runner-up to winner Andy Murray, with Jessica Ennis-Hill in third. Jessica took the Achievement in Sport Award in 2009 and was also one of the Olympic athletes we recognised with the Personality Award in 2012.

Huge congratulations to our 2015 Personality of the Year, Bailey Matthews, whose efforts were recognised with the Helen Rollason Award which is made for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity.

There was also honour for this year’s Achievement in Sport winner, Lizzie Armitstead, who was among the final 12 sportspeople shortlisted for the Personality of the Year Award and our 2013 sport winner, Yorkshire Cricketer, Joe Root, who was acknowledged for his stand out contribution.
